Bustamante makes the 3 and the 5 on the break. He makes his first error and Strickland take over the rack. (Strickland- 2; Bustamante- 2)

Bustamante makes the 4 on his break but with the 5 obscuring the 1. He knocks it safe on the top-rail. Strickland forces a kick-shot, leaving Bustamante a long-shot on the 1-ball, which he misses. Strickland clears the remaining balls. (Strickland- 4; Bustamante- 5)

Rack 10

Strickland makes the 8 on the break but has no shot on the 1. He pushed-out. Bustamante puts him back in but the Strickland pulls off a snooker that leaves Bustamante needing to make a tough four cushion escape, in which he hit but the 1-ball never touches a rail. This gives Strickland a ball-in-hand. He makes the 1 but runs slightly out of position on the red 3 and misses the pot. Bustamante makes a snooker, with the 9-ball blocking the 3. Bustamante makes the 5 on the break but he loses the position of the cue-ball. Bustamante loses the safety battle, leaving Strickland with ball-in-hand and the rack. (Strickland- 5; Bustamante- 6)

Strickland makes a ball on the break but is elected to do a safety on the 1. Bustamante caroms the 1 through the 9 and clears the remaining colors. (Strickland- 10; Bustamante- 12)

Rack 23

Bustamante breaks, depositing the 1 and the 4 on the pocket but leaving him to elect a safety in which he do. Strickland makes a decent shot to contact the 2 and to leave another safety for Bustamante. Bustamante manages to hit the 2 but leaves an open table on Strickland, in which he cleared again. Strickland deposits 3 balls on his break and sends the cue ball to fly off the table. He runs-out. (Strickland- 11; Bustamante- 13)

Bustamante makes the 4 on the break and leaves him a 1/9 combination. He missed it. Strickland leaves Bustamante a snooker in which Bustamante scratches trying to get out from it. With a ball-in-hand, Strickland run-out with an amazing shot to get the cue ball from the 3 to the 5. (Strickland- 12; Bustamante- 13)

Strickland makes the 3 and the 7 on the break and is forced to make a safety, but he leaves the 1 open for Bustamante. Bustamante runs out (Strickland- 12; Bustamante- 14)

Rack 28

Strickland makes the 5-ball on the break but finds the 1-ball buried in a cluster. He clips it into the side pocket and keeps position for the 2. Strickland leaves the cue right up against the 4. With no other shot on, Strickland rolls the white down table behind the 9-ball. Bustamante makes the escape shot but leaves an open table. Dramatically Strickland misses and Bustamante clears the remainder of the table. (Strickland- 13; Bustamante- 15)

Thorsten Hohmann won the lag. After an exchange of safety shots, Pagulayan sent the cue ball off the table and Hohmann takes the 1st rack.

Hohmann potted two balls on the break but puts Pagulayan at the table. A poor shot of the 2 gave way for Hohmann to take the rack.

Hohmann breaks, pots the 1 but misses the 2, yet he leave it safe. Pagulayan nearly makes the 2 on his 2-rail kick but he misses it, leaving the table open for Hohmann. Hohmann clears the table to become the 2003 World Champion.

2004 World Pool Championships

Alex Pagulayan vs Chang Pei-wei

Rack 1

Chang easily won the lag and made the 3 ball on the break with nice shape on the 1. The problem ball was the 7 but he made a nice carom onto the 8-ball only to miss the tight cut on the 7 to leave Pagulayan with a simple 2 ball out to take the opening rack.

Pagulayan makes two balls on the break but is elected to push-out rather than to take the long 2. Chang left Pagulayan with a snooker but he failed to make the easy escape as no balls hit a rail. With ball-in-hand Chang cleared the table.

Chang comes up dry on his break. Pagulayan attempts a safety but leaves the long 1 and the rack for Chang

2005 World Pool Championships

Wu Chia-ching vs Kuo Po-cheng

Rack 1

Kuo wins the lag but misses tight cut on the 1 ball, Wu misses same shot and then Kuo once again misses to open table up for Wu who clears up to go into the lead at 1-0.

Rack 2

Wu smacks open the pack and then gets out of trouble to pocket the 1 ball with an excellent jump shot. However, Wu makes his first mistake as he misses a long cut on the pink 4. Kuo plays a great positional shot from 5 to 7 to set up a rack winning out. 1–1.

Rack 3

Following a safety battle on the 1 ball, Kuo misses a relatively straightforward 2 ball to give table back to Wu who clears to go 2-1.

Rack 4

The first break and run of the match sees Wu extend his lead to 3-1.

Rack 5

With nothing available on the 1 ball, Wu pushes out and a safety exchange ensues. Kuo cracks first as he misses the 1 ball completely, trying to swerve and with ball in hand Wu tries a very risky 1/9 combo but falls well short. Kuo then lays a deadly snooker and Wu makes a mess of the escape and with ball in hand, Kuo takes advantage full with a 3/9 combo. 3-2.

Rack 6

A decent break from Kuo leaves him well placed, but a miss on the 2 ball allows Wu in to clear up. 4-2.

Rack 7

Wu snookers his opponent following the break off, but Kuo’s escape leaves a ball on. From there Wu clears up to increase his lead to 5–2.

Rack 8

Kuo tries to leave the 1 safe after Wu misses a cut on it but the 16 year-old is in fearless mood and clears up to go to 6-2.

Rack 9

Wu makes a mistake in the next as he misses a fairly easy pot on the 3 ball. Fortunately for Kuo, it falls nicely for him and he is able to compose himself to clear the table and stop the rot. 6–3 Wu.

Rack 10

Kuo missed the 2 but left it snookered and Wu fouled, handing his opponent a chance to further cut the deficit. 6-4 Wu.

Rack 11

Wu now only leads by one rack as Kuo breaks and runs for the first time in the match. 6-5 Wu.

Rack 12

A safety from Kuo tempted Wu into a jump shot and although he made contact with the 1 ball he left an open table and Kuo cleared to get on level terms. 6–6.

Rack 13

Kuo made a ball on the break but with nothing available a lengthy safety battle follows. Finally, a quality pot by Kuo got him back in the balls, but he missed the 6 ball to allow Wu to clear the table and reassert his lead. 7–6 Wu.

Rack 14

A great break shot from Wu sets up an elementary run out which he takes full advantage of to increase his lead to 8–6.

Rack 15

Wu ran out of position on the 2 ball following a miscue. He tried to play safe but left it on for Kuo who dug deep to clear the table and get to 8–7 down.

Rack 16

Kuo is forced into awkward bridging on the 4 ball and misses the pot, allowing Wu a clearance. 9-7 Wu.

Rack 17

Wu sends the cue ball flying off the table during another power-break. Kuo takes advantage of the chance and makes it 9-8.

Rack 18

Wu looks set to take the rack after a marvellous jump shot on the 2 ball when hooked. He clears the table until a miscue on the 8 ball and Kuo then levels the match at 9-9.

Rack 19

Kuo looked set to take the lead for the first time in the match when his nerves fail him on the 9 ball and Wu makes a table length cut on it to go back infront. 10-9 Wu.

Rack 20

Wu's dry break puts the table back in Kuo's favour and he runs-out to go 10-10.

Rack 21

Kuo makes a jump shot on the 1 ball but it doesn't go down and Wu clears to go back in front at 11-10.

Rack 22

Wu misses a 5 ball down the rail and Kuo steps in to level once again - but he still hasn't been ahead. 11-11.

Rack 23

Kuo finally takes the lead after a carom shot on the 6 ball gives him the chance to clear following a safety exchange. 12-11 to Kuo.

Rack 24

The tide may have turned as Kuo breaks and runs out for a two rack cushion. 13-11.

Rack 25

Kuo misses the 1 ball to leave the table for Wu but a nudge off the orange 5 sends the cue ball into the middle pocket. With ball in hand, Kuo pockets the balls until he runs out of position on the 6 ball and plays a snooker. Wu manages to make contact with the 6 but leaves it on for Kuo. He clears to go into a 14–11 lead.

Rack 26

Another break and run-out despite a tricky layout sees Kuo go to within two racks of victory. 15-11.

Rack 27

Kuo leaves himself a long pot on the 3 ball, jacking the ball up on the rail. He misses but leaves it safe for Wu who plays a safety. Kuo's response isn't accurate enough and Wu seizes the opportunity. 15-12.

Rack 28

Wu runs out of position on the 2 ball and leaves himself snookered. He flukes the 3 ball but scratches as he does so and with ball in hand Kuo goes to the hill. 16-12.

Rack 29

Wu stays alive with a clearance after Kuo makes a schoolboy error by failing to hit a rail with a ball after playing safe. 16-13.

Rack 30

Tension is boiling over in Kaohsiung as Wu breaks and runs-out for 16-14.

Rack 31

Another run-out by the 16 year-old means that Kuo is kept sweating in his chair. 16-15.

Rack 32

The fate of the title will be decided in the final rack after Wu runs out another rack to go hill-hill. 16-16.

Rack 33

The most dramatic conclusion in the history of the event sees Wu run out a fourth and final rack to become the youngest world champion in history.
